About Us

Hook Set Innovations is a small manufacturer located in Western Canada, in British Columbia. The company started with president Nick Batistic’s idea of a workable fly rod holder for his float tube. It began in 1999 when Nick was laid off from an international insurance brokerage after a merger. He took the opportunity to become a Trout Bum, and went fishing for the year. During that year he scoured the market to find a holder he liked, but finding none, he designed and built one.

It turned out pretty good, to the extent that a local fishing shop asked him to build a few for them for retail. The holders got a good reception, which encouraged Nick to look into the viability of commercial production – and in the year 2000, the current Float’n Tote was introduced to the marketplace.

The primary drive to produce the holder was to share its design with fellow tubers. Even after five seasons the project is still a long way from paying for itself, but Nick draws much satisfaction from the stream of customer emails and letters who are appreciating the design features of the holder.

Nick still works as an insurance broker, but in his spare time continues to crank out a few holders (assisted from time to time by his kids!) to keep fellow tubers smiling. A creative thinker and natural tinkerer, Nick always seems to have something on the go in improvements and new ideas…. keep hopping onto this site from time to time for updates!
